Rutherford School is very proud to have been awarded this prestigious award!
This award is presented to schools, charities, and organisations where at least four members of staff are trained in the Story Massage Programme, and where it has been used for over a year.
“The Story Massage Programme is a fun and fully inclusive way of combining the creativity of story, song, and rhyme with the benefits of positive touch. Everyone can join in, whatever age or ability. It is enjoyed by children and adults of all ages and abilities in a wide variety of settings”.
The program was introduced by our Wellbeing Specialist Teacher, Catherine Halford. It was first implemented during the first lockdown as part of our home learning program. It was such a handy tool to use to address the wellbeing of our learners and students during a prolonged time of isolation.
Back at school, weekly sessions have proven to be very beneficial. Each class in the school has a designated Story Massage lead who has undertaken training. This enables the classes to deliver story massage sessions based on current topics to broaden the scope of how learners experience these topics and facilitate multi-sensory learning for our young people.

Well done to Catherine and all the staff and young people at Rutheford for their hard work, enabling us to win this prestigious award!
